HOCKEY.

LADIES' TOURNAMENT. The ladies' hookey tournament Was' continued in perfcct weather yesterday after- - noon. An unfortunate incident has occurred which marred, to some extent, the harmonious relations which have been characteristic of the competing ladies. It appears that on Tuesday last Wairarapa A (Kia ToaS) met Nelson, /and defeated them by two goals to nil. Prior to. the commencement of the game, Nelson objected to its counting in tho championship, as there had been some mis? understanding as to whether a tournamept match,or a friendly game was to be played and some girls were absent. Several committee meetings were held, and it was decided that if the result affected first or second placs in tho championship the match was.to be replayed. Some friction has arisen over the matter, the finishes being very close, and both arc naturally desirous of being tho runners-up. Tho match will be played off to-day, and it will decide second and third places. Hawko's Bay are easily first, Wairarapa A and Nelson are (at present) second, Wellington A fourth, Wairarapa B fifth, and Wellington B sixth. The play-off will bs a close and interesting • contest, and it is certain to attract a large crowd this afternoon. . A number of the visitors intend leaving for their homes to-day. One and all express themselves .delighted with the tournament, and they havo all spent an eiijoyablo holiday.' " . Tho following are yesterday's results:— NELSON (2) V. WELLINGTON A (0). Under porfect conditions, Nelson met Wellington A on No. 1 ground. Wellington secured tho ball from the bully-off, and tho leather was carried up tho field, where tho play remained for a. few minutes. Nelson, however, by a piece of pretty passing among tho halves and forwards, reversed tho order and attacked vigorously. They pressed the defenders severely, "and two shots at goal went wide. Wellington removed play to their opponents' territory by a passing rush up tho field, and Nelson .wero forced to. concodo a corner, but they soon assumed tho aggreasiTo and kept Wellington steadily defending. Nelson remained on tho attack, Wollington boing unable to r.iiso tho siego. After tho interral, Nelson resumed tha attacking movement, but for a., few,- minutes their progress was barred by oscollent'defence. Miss Gear boing prominent. ■ Threo 1 minutes had elapsed, when Miss Mnckay, left wing, took a clear hit which, through over-eagerness on hor part, struck the post: Tho ball rebounded, and Miss Kelly, centre-half, hit in easily. Ten minutes later,-Wellington rushed down tho field; the defenders were not in their places, and a scoro was only - averted by Miss Robertson oonoeding a corner.'Towards' the end, Wellington assumed; the aggressive, but they found the defending'backs too hard a nut to crack. Time after time tho local forwards dashed down tho field, but the ball was promptly returned. Within a minute to go, the Southerners mado a good rush and, after a brief struggle, Miss Selling • again hit through, Nelson thus winning by two goals to nil.. ... For Wellington, Miss Fleet, ,in goal, was rery reliable, Miss Doughty and Miss Gear proved staunch in the reaT division, and Miss Tavondalo and Miss Leary, wings, put in excellent work. Their oppononts all gave creditablo displays. WAIRARAPA A (2) V WAIRARAPA B (0). TheAandß Wairarapa teams met on No. 2 ground, the A's proving too strong for the .B's, who wero unable! to score. The first spell was all in favour of the A's, but still tho B's wero, for a while, minus, the services of Miss K. O'Loary, who received a nasty blow on the mouth early in the game. Miss E. Bicknell, who has played tcry well,, in every game, scored both tho A's goals. .Tho B's throughout deferred their hits too_ long, and would do well to practise hardhitting. In tho second spell, tho B's livened up and attacked strongly, but failed to sooro through waiting. They were kept out by Miss W. Beatson, who invariably hit hard, sometimes practically tho length of tho ground. Miss O'Leary returned to the field in this spell, and played a good game for tho B's, being ably supported by Misses M. Harris and Olive Richards, while for tho A's, the most noticeablo wore Misses E. Bicknell, Humphries (2),. Kcedwell, and Beatson. ' TO-DAY'S FIXTURES. The grand final match, Nelson v. Wairarapa A, will bo played on No; 1 1 Ground at 2 p.m. (Day's Bay). Tho return match between the combined Manakau and Hui Mai teams and the Gregg Institute Ladies' Hockey Club was played at tho Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon before a large numbor of spectators. The game was fast and open throughout. The visitors made tho most of their opportunities, eventually winning by two goals to nil. Tho goals wore shot by Misses Stopford and Eckfield. Miss O'Neill, for Gregg's, played a brilliant game at right wing, and Misses Ward, Walker,, and Halley were also prominent. • For tho victors, Misses Stopford, Eckfield, Haughton, and "Ruth" played very well. Mr. Bennett gave every satisfaction •as referee. Tho teams and their friends wore ontertained for dinner and tea at Godber's. WELLINGTON JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The second round in tho junior grade will commence to-day as follows:—Victoria Collego A v. St. John's A, on No. 4 Ground, Day's Bay, at 3 p.m.;. Hinemoa v. Girls Collcgo, on No, 3 Ground, at 3 p.m. THIRD-CLASS. Terraco A T. Ramblers, No. 4 Ground, at 2

These matches aro tho semi-finals in. th« local championship, and some good games aro to be witnessed. MEN'S MATCHES. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. ' Tho following are to-day's fixtures United v. Victoria College, Day's' Bay; Karori T. Vivian, Day's Bay. THIRD-CLASS MATCHES. ■ Thorndon v. Y.M.C.A., Wellington ground; Wellington v. United, Y.M.C.A. ground; Viotoria College A v. Wesley, Thornaon. ground ; t Victoria College B v. Vivian, Vivian ground. No junior matches will be played, but third-class matches will bo continued. . As United seniors lead Karori by only, two points, and Victoria College have not been beaten in tho second round, the above senior fixtures should.prove interesting.
