WEST COAST WEATHER. Greymouth advices received by the Union Company yesterday reported that a strong westerly gale ivas raging there, and that it was very unlikely that auy shipping movements would take place. WAITEMATA, FROM NEWCASTLE. Favoured with fine weather, tho Union Company s cargo steamer Waitemata made a smart passage from Newcastle, arriving yesterday morning. " HAWEA'S ENGINEERS. . Our special correspondent at Sydney, in referring to the difficult work of repairing the Haweas broken shaft while disabled at sea, gives credit to the "Scotch engineer." Mr. A. K. Hislop, secretary of the Marino Engineers', wishes to correct this statement, and says that all the Hawea's engineers are New Zealand born. Mr. J. M'Lean, the chief, was born at Lyttelton, and Messrs. A. C. Carman and F. J. Ritson, second and third respectively, are natives of Wellington. The latter two served their time in local engineering works, and all three have climbed the ladder up to their present positions in the Union Company's service. PASSENGERS FROM ENGLAND.
