A QUIET DAY. SMALL GOVERNMENT MEASURES. NOXIOUS WEEDS AGAIN. INSPECTION OF MACHINERY BILL. During a' -short sitting yesterday afternoon, tho Legislative' Council agreed to tho amendments made by the House in the Town Boards Amendment Bill, and put tho Civil Service Amendment Bill and Taupo No. 2 Block Bill through Committee and final . stages.' Useful'work was done in the Houso in tho ' cloarance of small Government measures. The Impounding Act Amendment Bill underwent some important- amendments in Committee. . A stubborn fight was waged by ' Southern members over the Agricultural Produce Salo and Importation Bill, an; endeavour boing made to delete certain clauses imposing restrictions on tho sale of chaff found to contain the seeds of Califomian thistle. Tho debate developed into another discussion on noxious weeds. The-remainder of the evening's sitting was occupied- with the second reading of. tho Inspection of-Machinery 'Amendmerit Bill and the ' Committee stages 'of tho Declaratory Judgments Bill.. The Houso rose, .apparently with manifestations of satisfaction with the day's work, at midnight.; . "
