Justice 'Edwards, Lucie' Caroline Maxwell, of llotorua, sought 1 a dissolution of .her marriage with Christopher Freke Maxwell. There was no. appearance of respondent. Petitioner said she was married to respondent in 1895 at Rawepo, Hokianga. There were two children issue of • thcs marriage. In January, 1905, her husband was appointed 'resident commissioner at Niue> in the Cook Islands, and during .1006 committed adultery with a native woman there. 'Petitioner: discovered her husband's misconduct' in 'June, 1907, and had not since, lived with him. Letters from :respondent 'admitting misconduct'were put in, and the hearing was adjourned pending the productfori of- the marriage certificate. PALMERSTON CASES. The sittings'of the Supreme Court were continued here yesterday morning, before Mr. Justice Chapman.. /Henry Woods was found guilty of having committed-a criminal offence against a little girl. His Honour) in passing sentence, said ho must deal with such a man in a way that would stop such offences • as .much as possible. .The prisoner had just finished a term of five years-for a similar offence in Hawcra. He had also been convictcd of other offences. Addressing the prisoner, Jiis Honour said: "You-aro not a mail to be trusted about, and for your own good, as' well as for the safety of the public, you will be 'sentenced to seven years' imprisonment with hard labour." Tho prisoner had to be carried out of Court. Thomas Gleeson,-for a, breach of thfc Bankruptcy Act, was found guilty. The jury brought in a strong recommendation for leniency, owing to the inexperience of prisoner, who will bo brought up for sentence in tho morning. ' Palmerston North, September 9. At the Supreme Court to-day, Letitia Broad, for abandoning a child at Yt'anganui, was ordered to como up for scnteiico when called upon. John Wollior was charged with tho theft of five bales of hemp, valued ,at £20, on or about Juno 2, from the New Zealand Shipping Company at Foxton. Particulars havo alroady been published. A verdict of not guilty was returned.
