AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

■ $ —-— • THE WELLINGTON CLUB. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of ,the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club on Friday, September 18, congratulates mombors on the satisfactory state of the club's position as disclosed by the bal-,.ince-'sheet, and also on the distinction gained by certain of its member's during tho past season. Owing to the' local centre controlling all afternoon sports'gatherings on tho Basin, Reserve .it was found impossible to hold- the usual sports carnival, no other suitable ground being available. Threo evening - meetings, howover, were held, and were well supported. With H. St. A. Murray, of Christchurch, ,H. E. Kerr represented the Dominion at the Olympic Games, and although not successful in gaining an Olympic championship, his performances, oil such short notice, in walking third in the 3500 metres raco to G. F. Larner and H. J. Webb, and third in tho boat of the 10 miles event, were extremely meritorious. The Australasian championships were held at Hobart, this club being represented by H. E. Kerr, H. Henderson, G. S. Sharp, and E. E. Fisher. Championships were obtained by Kerr (one and threo mile walks) and G. S. Sharp (three mile run). Club members wero also prominent in the New Zealand championships held at Wellington, firsts falling to tho following:—H. Henderson, 100yds.'; E. E. Fisher, 220 yds.; G. S. Sharp, three miles; J. Wallace, hammer; H. E. Kerr, one mile walk. H. E. Kerr, ono mile walk; W. H. Pollock, 440 yds.; and W. Gosling, half-mile, won honours at tho Wellington provincial championships, while E ,E. Fisher was successful in winning the Otago provincial 220 yds. championship. The challenge cup's for the season have been won as follows: —Mr. H. D. Bell's cup —D. Casey and T. Lambert. Mr. J. Duthie's cup—D. Casey. Mr.' Tripp's cup—T. Lambert. Mr. D. Nathan's cup—L. L. Paul. The full membership of the club at present totals 89. Thanks are' extended to Messrs. C. E. Bridge, W. F. Larkin, and H. S. Robinson for' donations to evening meetings, and to those who helped. Also to Mr. T. W. Leslie, official starter, and to Messrs. W. F. Larkin and W. H. Pollock, handicappers. ' .The'balance-sheet shows a credit of £14 15s. 10d., and the assets exceed the liabilities by £56 15s. lOd.
