9 /WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. ; MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union held a meeting last night. There were present: Mr. S. Brown (iii tho chair), aiul Messrs. Hales, Berry, Alpe, Hardham, Burns, O'Sullivan, Murray, and Sweeney. ■ The City Council intimated that Newtown I'ark would bo required on tho afternoon of Saturday, September 26, for Government celebrations in connection with Dominion Day. - ■ Leave was granted to St. James's Club to play a match against the Kia Ton Club at Palmerston North 011 September 19. The Selwyn Club was granted permission to present gold medals to the following players: — Most improved junior, J. Osborne; do., third, A. Lowe; do., fourth, W. Thompson; do., fifth, J. Burko; host back, fifth-class team, F. Galvin; best attendance, do., T. Leeks. Tho Epuni Club was also granted leave to present medals to a number of players. Tho Miramar Athletic Park and Wonderland Company, Ltd., notified the committee that tho park would be required for the purposes of a pony race meeting on Saturday, September 26. The application of tho Technical School authorities for use of Newtown Park on Saturday for a match Technical Old Boys v. Technical 1008 Boys was granted. It was stated that the outcome of the match would be a team of Old Boys for the fourth-class competition next year. 1 It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Murray, that tho Kia Ora Club bo asked for an explanation of their action (in view of tho communication on tho_subject from tho commttee) in playing Tannahill against Petone on Saturday last, and that they be informed that the committee would bo pleased, if tho club wished it, to hear any of the members at the next meeting of tho committteo. During a discussion with regard to tho matter, it was stated that a rumour had been abroad to the effect that Kia Ora supporters wanted their team to win at all costs. It was also assorted that thero was a good deal of money on tho match, which resulted in a draw. LAWS OF THE GAME. SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. In view of tho holding of a special meeting of delegates on October 1, to consider tho advisableness of amending the laws of tho game, the New Zealand Rugby Union had forwarded to each of the affiliated unions a copy of tho proposed amendments which it has asked .tho. English Union to recommend the International 13oard to adopt. Following aro the suggested amendments: — Law 2—A tackle: That a player brought to tho ground be allowed to pass tho ball, oven though it lias touched the ground, provided it bo done immediately. Law 2 —Scrummage: Add: —"In every case whon the referee orders a scrummage he shall himself put tho ball into the said scrummage." Law 2—Ball in scrummage: A player cannot lift his leg until the ball touches tho ground, and unless tho ball is put past tho first man of the scrummago that lias tho shorter front it shall not bo considered to liavo been fairly put into the scrummage. Law 2—Knocking on and throwing forward: That it should not be considered a knock-on if the player so doing recovers possession before the ball touches tho ground. Law 2—Fair catch : Add after "catch" in last lino of definition "or by immediately calling out 'mark.'" Law 3—Section (e): That tho refereo be allowed discretionary power as to whether the game shall bo stopped. Law 3—Section (f): Delete tho words "held or." Law 4^-Scoring:' Goal from mark or a penalty-kick to count two points. Law 6 —Section (c) to bo deleted. Add after "goal-line" in last lino of notes: —"But when the ball is on tho ground after a player has been tacldod it may bo picked up by any player other than tho man so tackled." Law B—Add new section (c): When lie has run behind 0110 of his own side who has last played tho ball. Law 12—Section (a) to read: "Throwing it out so as to alight a minimum distance -of five yards from and at right angles to tho touch-line." WELLINGTON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Managemcntf"Committee of tho Wellington Football Assaciation was held last evening, Mr. L. White presiding. A communication was received from the Hawko's Bay Association, asking that a team should be sent to play tliem on September; 24. Tho selector of the Senior Leaguo was asked to consult with the Senior Second Division selectors with regard to getting a combined team away. A spectator at a rccont match wrote, apologising for striking a player. It was decided to write' to tho spcctatof informing him that in any future occurrence of tho kind legal proceedings would follow, and to inform tho club on wkoso ground the match was played that a repetition of tho offence would result in tho ground being disqualified. The. Taihapo Club intimated that it was taking steps to affiliate to tho newly-formed Wangauui Association. An application was received from tho Canterbury Association, asking for a visit from a Wellington team on September 26. Tho committee regretted that a team could not bo sent, owing to the Charity Cup fixtures. A letter was received from-Masterton, stating that final arrangements were being made with regard to the match with Wellington Senior Second Division team on Soptember 17. Mr. B. L, Salmon will manage tho Wellington team; Mr. A. Nowson will referee; and Mr. A. Dalziell will act as 0110 of tho linesmen. Tho Senior Second Division selectors were instructed to see if they could get a team away to Wanganui on September 24. ' Tho Town Clerk advised that the Basin Reserve would bo required for Dominion Day celebrations on September 26, and Nowtown Park would bo required for tho samo purpose in tho afternoon. It wa.s decided that tho Swifts-Rovers and Wanderers-Y.M.C.A. Charity Cup ties should bo played on September 19, wet or fine. NORTHERN UNION RULES. WELLINGTON V. AUCKLAND. A match under Northern Union rules is to be played at tho Petone Recreation Ground next Saturday between Wellington and Auckland. Tho game is for tho purpose of raising funds to help in organising tho Northern Union game. Tho Wellington team'.will bo as follows:— FULL BACK.' ' Georgo Spencer. THREE-QUARTERS.
