STRENUOUS CONTEST. (B1 TELEGRAPH —rBESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) London, September 8. A strenuous election campaign is proceeding at Newcastle in connection with the. vacancy created by the death of Mr. Cairns. .As was recently explained, the Unionists won' the constituency in 1900 and were defeated in 1906. The by-election will throw an interesting light on the process of the swing of the pendulum.
