' Ingredients.—2 cups of finely-shredded whitehearted cabbage, 1 cup of chopped cauliflower/ ' 1 cup of shredded carrot, 3 cup of shredded turnip, li cups of chopped onion, 1 cup of chopped celery, or some celery seeds, salt, pepper, 21 tablespoonfuls of butter, 2 quarts, of • water, i thin slices of bread and butter, brown 6ugar. '' ■ Method.—Cook tho shredded vegetables for fifteen minutes in the butter without browning them, and.then add the water, salt, pepper, and about half a tablespoonful of brown sugar. The celery seeds are tied in a piece of muslin, and are a splendid substithte for celery. Next add'tho water and boil the soup for about an hour with the lid off the saucepan. ' Brown the bread and butter in .the oven, : , and put it into the soup tureen. Pour the goup on to it, and then serve it at once. Any fresV vegetables may be used in this soup. FOR TO-MORROW. '.
