Mr. W. E. Pearson, who has been indisposed for some days, is making rapid progress towards recovery. , The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) was confined to his house yesterday by a severo cold, but ho hopes to be in his-place in Parliament to-day. Mr. L. F. Ayson, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, is to leavo for Auckland tonlay or to-morrow, chiefly in connection with'the oyster business. Mr. C. P. Skcrrett, K.C., who is recuperating at Lowry Bay, aftor a severe attack of influenza, hopes to bo able to attend at his office again next week. Mr. W. S. Short and the other Wellington members of the Manawatu Drainage Commission will leave for Palmerston North on Tuesday next. The Commission will take evidence on the following day. Mr. Justice Cooper leaves Wellington at the end of the week for Hokitika, where ho will preside over the criminal and civil sessions. . It is probable that his Honour will be absent about three weeks. ' The Hon. A. R. Guinness, M.P., Speaker of tho House of Representatives, returned from tho Wairarapa by last night's express. Mr. T. Mackenzie, M;P., and Mr: T. Parata, M.P., also returned by tho sama train. Mr. John Campbell (Government Architect) and Mr. J. D. Louch (Resident Engineer) left yesterday to inspect public works in course of erection_ in Palmerston North and the surrounding and also in Napier. They will return" to Wellington at tho end of the week. Lieutenant G. E. B. Mickle, of the Royal New Zealand Artillery, who is undergoing a two years' further training in artillery work in England, has recently been presented to the King. It is his intention, to leave England in November next. Mr. Isaac Hyams, who > has been in the service of the, Post and Telegraph Department for 33 years, has retired on superannuation on account of ill-health. Mr. Hyams is a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and for a great number of years has taken the liveliest interest in cricket, a sport ho has dropped for the past three years in favour of bowls. Mr. Hyams's health has been far from good for some years past.
