Russell were appointed a sub-committeo to report upon certain proposed alterations and improvements to tho training tracks. Tho Australian sportsman Mr. J. J. For some yoars> writes our Wairarapa correspondent, tlio Taratahi-Carterton .Racing Club lias tried unsuccessfully to persuade tho powers that bo to allow it an autumn in addition to its present spring meeting. Tho club's courso is admirably suited for tho convonicnca of the public for racing purposes, and its King's Birthday meeting is ono of tho most popular in tho AVellington province. Tho racing track is very fine, and tho club is adding yearly to its very commodious buildings. Thoro is every reason why tho club should bo allowed another meeting, but so far its efforts in this direction liavo proved abortive. Now, however, a supremo effort is to bo mado to overcome the antagonism of tho Colonial Secretary, and tho Hon. James Carroll, with tho Parliamentary party, which is to visit tho AVairarapa this week, is to bo invited to inspect tho course and its arrangements on Monday, September 7. Tho ofHeials of the club then liopo that, as a result of the visit of tho Minister, an application for a further yearly mooting may bo granted. . NEW ZEALAND CUP ACCEPTANCES.
