HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
NO-LICENSE LEAGUE. A special meeting of the executive of tho Hutt No-License League was held on Friday evening and passed a resolution unanimously stating that the league indignantly repudiated the insinuation that it had been guilty of the offence of roll-stuffing. Mr. A. It: Atkinson, as solicitor for the defence in the case in question, is to be asked to draw up a full statement of the facts for submission to the Premier and the public, and that Mr. Atkinson be instructed to advise whether tho resolution adopted by the Licensed Victuallers' Association constitutes a libel on the league or any of its officers or members, and if so what proceedings should bo taken 011 their behalf. A declaration by Annie Carter, the defendant in the case mentioned, was read, explaining tho circumstances under which she had written. her previous letter. It was unanimously decided to ask tho secretary, Mr. Thos. Towusend, to deliver an address at tho.nest league meeting entitled "Tho Trade, its Tactics: An Exposure." Tho address is to bo given in tho Oddfellows' Hall, Petonc.
Tho attendance to hear the selections given by the Petone Brass Band yesterday was very poor, about 50 peoplo being present. Tho programme was as follows March, "ICalgoorlid"; solection, '"Melodies of Old Ireland"; cornet solo, "Lost Chord"; glee, "Hohonlinden" ; euphonium solo, "Rocked in the Cradle of_ the Deep"; march, "Western Boom"; "God Save the King."
