A few .weeks ago the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association-wrote to-tlia-Minister r for Public Works asking -if theMain Trunk line would bo open for the 'car-,. ri.ige of stock in time for the Auckland show at the end of November. A letter was received yesterday from the Minister stating.that every effort was being made to coin- ■ plete the line, and make it ready for general • goods and'passenger,traffic as parly;as possible, and if his plans, in'this respect wore •not frustrated by an unforeseen happening thii line should-be ready for this traffic by tlie date mentioned by tho association. The- president (Mr. J. ' Massey) remarked that tho Government was evidently, pushing - on' the work, and.it was to be hoped thatthe Southern breeders would be .able/ to-"" get through with their.stock for this show. ' Thero had been inquiries from a number of '. breeders, and at any rate, if they -frere unable to get their stock'to this show, , they would'be able to get it through the'following ' year.
