His statement shows liabilities amounting to £1954.25. 7d., and assets amounting to £1589 7s. 8(1. The secured creditors are as follow:— W. G. Beard, solicitor, Mastcrton (mortgage on about fourteen acres of land), £580; Mutual Trading Company, Carterton, ami 6. A. Fairbrother (mortgage on land), £120; Thos. Ray, Clarevillo (mortgage over chattels), _ £111. The unsecured creditors include: — Tho Mutual Trading Company (disputed), -SSG2 lis. 4d.; C. Aplin, farmer, Crofton, £39; Mrs. 11. Hooper, Carterton, £300; Jas. Hodder, farmer, Daylefield, £49 18s.; J. J. C. Smith, laundryman, Carterton, £182 10s. The assets comprise fourteen acres of land in tho Borough of Carterton valued at £500, .with dwellings thereon valued at £830, and other terms making a total of £1589 7s. 8(l f The bankrupt, in written statement to tho District Official Assignee, states that he does not know tho cause that led up to his insolvency. Ho gives an account of several business affairs, and states that ho caunot . believo that lie owes some of tho money. The first meeting of creditors,will bo held in Carterton on Friday next. Tho Mastcrton Telephone Bureau is to be open day and night from to-morrow, subscribers' having petitioned tho PostmasterGeneral on the matter, and a sufficient number agreeing to pay tho extra fco of 10s. halfyearly for a 'continuous'service. Tho'new arrangement is greatly welcomed by' general business people and residents, especially those residing in out districts. There wero no creditors present at the meeting convened on Saturday by Mr. W. B. Clionnells, District Official Assignee, in the bankrupt estate of Mr. H. N. Clay, hotelkeeper, Haniua. Under examination the bankrupt stated that he purchased a lease oi tho Hamua Junction Hotel and furniture for £1150. Ho put £400 cash into the business, tho balance of the purchase money being secured by mortgage to Barraud and Abraham, Palmerston North. • Promissory notes to tin extent of £90 were given to J. B. Eaton Dannovirkc, the former licensee of the hotel Gopd business was dono at tho hotel foi about four or' five months when things slack ened, and eventually becamo so bad that 1« had to seek: protection in the Bankrupted Court. The District Official Assignee statec that the lease of the hot-el premises had beei sold, but before effecting a transfer of tin lease he intended to look into tho matter ii tho hopo of obtaining somo of the assets fo: unsecured creditors. The Seddon Technical School is to be offi cially opened by tho Governor and the Minis tor for Education on November 5. Mitchell) reported tho following slaught erings for tho month: —42 cows, 47 heifers 35' bullocks, 1 calf. 326 ewes, 126 wethers 43 pigs. Condemned:—l cow, 4 heifers, ! bullock, 3 sheep. Total fees for the mouth £75 3s. Tho Town Clerk! sent a report of a recen visit to Wellington in regard to the loans fo: borough improvements. Briefly,' the repor stated that Mr. Rankin had returned fron Wellington with a letter from tho Ti-easur; stating that £14,500 at 3i per 'cent, was nov available, and tho bridgo loan had beei granted at 3J por cent, for £1600, althougl tho council's application had'twico been re fused. The swimming baths loan at 4J pei cent, will be available upon completion o debentures and special orders. The currem rates for debenture loans are 5 per cent with 1 per cent, sinking fund. Death has again claimed an old resident, and on Friday afternoon a largo cortege followed tho remains of Mr. John Fallodn to tho Ballance Cemetery. He bad been ailing for some timo from paralysis and passed away at bis homo at tho ago of 45 on Wednesday-last. Ho leaves a widow and three children. .
