Mr. J. A. Nash, Mayor of Palmcrston North, is at-present on a visit to Wellington. • Mr. Alpers, solicitor, of Christchurch, is at present making a few days' stay in Wellington. Mr. R. Home, manager for the Dresden Piano Company, at Christchurch, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. R. W. G. Lye, of Taihapo Post Office, passed through Wellington _ yesterday en route ior Nelson, where ho joins the staff of tho District Telegraph Engineor. On Saturday night' tho employees of Messrs. Barber and Co. and a few personal friends mot at tho Royal »Hotel to bid farewell to Mr. Chas. Hueston, who is leaving the firm, after 23 years' service, to go into business on his own account in Auckland. Mr. E. 6.' Barber, in a feeling speech, made reference to the good fellowship that always existed between himself and Mr. Hueston, and wished that gentleman good luck in his new venture, and presented him with a substantial cheque, and, on behalf of tho employees, he handed him a haudsomo framed photo and a dressingcase. Mr. Hueston feelingly replied. ' The health of Mrs. and Miss Hueston and also tho firm of Barber and Co. was drunk. A few personal friends presented Mr. Hueston with a solid silver cigar case and a silvermounted umbrella.

The appropriateness of tho items included on the araft programme in connection with tho ooncert in the Concert Chamber last night was called in question by the city authorities. Upon-receipt of tho proposed list of items tho Town Clerk wroto as follows to the promoters:—"The programme submitted by -you does not appear oiie which should be approved for-a Sunday night concert, and I shall be glad- if you will call and see mo before, ( noon,••to^norroipj v and-,sujmiit, items less open to question." The "promoters declined to alter tho programme, _ and no further protest was made. Conversing with a Dominion representative, ono of the officials of the institution under whose auspices tho concert was held remarked"lf we had found the Concert Chamber closed we should most certainly have , brought a claim for damages against the Corporation."
