Cunningham Hermann Ortel Mr. Albert Garcia Hans Schwarz ~. Hcrr Raboth Hans Foltz Mr. Frederic Austin (Conductor, Dr. Hans Richt-er.) Notes. - ' * \ Tho profound regret of many at the breakdown of Mr. Charles Saunders on his last visit to Wellington should bo compensated in a great measure by the news that tho English tenor.°has completely recovered his voice, and is to sing at two miscellaneous concerts to bo given under the auspices of the Wellington Choral Society in the .Town Hall on September 16 and 18. So far Wellington has not heard Mr. Saunders at his best, for even in Judas Maccabaeus" there was evidence that he was straining to get vocal effects that under normal conditions lie could achieve without effort. Mr. Saunders is to sing somo of the gems of his repertoire at these concerts, which promise to stand out as tho most notable of the season now drawing to a close. Miss Clara Robson will also assist.

Puccini's "La Tosca" was given at Covent Garden, London, on July 18, with Madame Cavalicri in tho title-role. She has already shown that sho can sing and act well, but in this opera sho was not quite successful. Perhaps, howover, ono cannot forgot Miss Tornina's impersonation of tho unhappy heroine. But sho was received with great enthusiasm. Signor Scotti, as tho villain Searpia, was at lis very best; ho displayed great subtlety, but also great restraint. M. Gilibert, as the Sacristan, was simply perfect. M. Carbin, tho new-comer, was heard to bettor advantago than in "Les Huguenots." Tho performance, on tho whole, was a very fi'no one. Signor Campanini conducted.

Mr. Mallinson's charming song, " Slow, Horses, Slow," has been selected for inclusion in tho syllabus of tho next Trinity College vocal examination. For test purposes the Mallinson portfolio would be very hard to improvo upon, as each song is welded into the spirit of tho lines, and the veroen selected nro tho very fiowon of lyrical effort.
