THE BABY'S AID SOCIETY.
A meeting of tho Society for the Promotion of the Health of Women and Children was held at tho rooms, 119 Willis Street, yesterday. There_ were presentMesdames Fell, Maurice, Richmond, Chappie, M'Vicar, Dr. Platts-Mills, Rev. Mother Aubert, and Adj. Duff (Salvation Army). - ' Accounts amounting to £5 10s. wero passed for : payment. A further sum was voted to the nurso to meet cases of necessity. Tho committeb reported, with much gratification, the continued increase of the society's work,, quite a batch of letters hav : ing been received from' town and country making inquiries and asking for directions. Subscriptions wero received as follow:— "Non-resist'er," £10; Mrs. Winder, 10s.; Itev. A. L. Hansell, 10s. Further subscriptions and will bo thankfully received and' acknowledged by the hon. secretary, Mrs; M'Vicar, io Majoribanks- Street, and all inquiries promptly answered.
Visitors ,o Miss Gether's studio during the past 77cok (says a recent number of the "Sydney Morning Herald") wore very much interested in the photograph of a very beautiful hand-bound book, the work of Miss Joachim, of Dunedin. Tho original was an order given to Miss Joachim by an Englishman at present .in Sydney, and was sent as a gift to the Queen. To Miss Joachim was left the selection of the book, and tho design of the cover, and her choice was "The Flowers of New Zealand," which was bound in niger, with a simple conventional design of. rata, tho famous Now Zealand tea-tree.
