It was, he said, a great misfortune that steam communication between Now Zealand, Australia, ant| tho west' coast of America had been abandoned. To a certain extent' tho trouble seemed t# lie in the want of traffic, which needed fostering. . Australia could not do better than to develop her possessions in tho Pacific ,and bo lay the foundations of a common rntorcst which would make for peace and strengthen the ties of kinship.
