In future all deductions from the pay of the permanent force on account of superannuation must be made from "pay" only, it;having, been decided that "good conduct" arid " proficiency " pay are to be treated as allowances. The Audit Department require all deductions iii the case of non-commis-sioned officers arid men to on the pay for tho rhonth, and not on that of the year. In cases of -retirement tho superannuation' allowance will only be calculated on the basis of pay." • Finos. The attention of the Department lias been drawn to the' fact that officers are not entitled to receive the amount of fines from the Clerk of the Court.after an order under Section 49 of the Defence Act, 1886, lias been recordod as a conviction in tho Magistrate's Court: Section 1 of the Stamp Regulations of February'B, 1890, provides, that all fines shall be paid in stamps; Section 319 of tho Justices of the Peace Act, 18S2, directs that fines shall bo paid into tho Public Account. Tho amount of the fines will be paid to officers commanding corps by tho Treasury Department. ' ■
