The War Office have decided that officers are again to wear tho sword on activo service. During tho South African war tho sword was discarded, and officers wero instructed to carry the ride, like their men. The Japanese war, however, has led to a reconsideration of tho matter. On the one side there was the fact that the possession of a sword singled an officer out for the enemy's sharpshooters; on the_ other, tho moral value given to him by being different at all points from hi 3 men. ' The Japanese experience has turned .the scale,. and . the oid order is to be re-established.
