NO-LICENSE COUNCIL.

■ $ 1 PAPER BY MR. A.'R. ATKINSON. The fortnightly meeting of tho No-License Central Council was hold last evening, tho ltev. W. J. Williams occupying tho chair. Mr. A. R. Atkinson read a paper on tho subjcct of prohibition orders in*No-Licenso districts, in which some very striking .instances were brought out. While tho prohibited person was 1 undoubtedly, said Mr. Atkinson, on tho very brink of social ruin, yet it was shown that No-License resulted in tho salving of this class 'to tho extent of SO per cent. It was decided to sccure publication of the paper; . Attention was drawn' to the results of the liquor traffic intho city during tho past month as recorded in tho police reports. Tho following list of charges, which were reported in the press, as. beirtg associated with liquor during the month, was read: —Drunkenness 121, idlo and disorderly 9, habitual drunkenness 2, fata! accidents 2, damago to property 2, prohibition, orders 2, breaches of orders 6, sly-grog 5, obscone. language 3, theft 3, false pretences 5, obstructing and resisting tho police 5, assault lj criminal as1, forgery 2, indecency 1, illegally on premises 1. There were also a large number of cases, in which, although liquor was not mentioned, it was"undoubtedly at the root of tho charge. '
