: Miss Elliott, of the Hutt, is giving a tea on Saturday afternoon for Miss Sadio Lukin, .whose marriage takes place this month. The following Saturday the Misses Johnston are giving another tea for Miss Lukin. Mrs. Tringham went up to the Wairarapa on Tuesday -to be present at Miss Cotter's :wedding. ■ On Tuesday afternoon a very successful drawingroom temperance meeting was held at the residence of Mrs. Henry Barnes, "Kidderminster," Crofton, over twenty-fivo ladies being present. Miss Copkin presided,and after a few opening. remarks introduced Mrs. W. J. Williams, of Wellington South, who'gave-a very interesting and instructive address on th~o No-Liconse question. On Tuesday afternoon a very enjoyable, afternoon, tea was given to. their ■ girl friends • by the Misses Hannay, at their home on the Terrace. • The'rooms. wero prettily , decorated with-violets and other spring flowers, and during the afternoon a very ' amusing and instructive competition was hold. The competitors were asked to give. the prices of a number of articles in common use, from candles to cigarettes, and here, as in other observation contests,' they wero' surprised to find how little they had noticed many everyday matters. Tho ,prize was won by Miss, Thyra Von Dadelszen. Miss- Hannay wore a graceful ; frock ,of pale blue trimmed with silk of the same shade; Miss C. Hannay, a cream not blouse with black velvet skirt; and Miss F. Hannay was in a soft cream frock. Among the guestß present wore Miss Marchant, Miss Gibbs, Miss: E. Sho wore an embroidered'fecial veil and wreath of orange blossoms, and-carried an exquisite shower ' bouquet of hothouso flowers. Her ornaments were a pearl necklace and pendant : and diamond buckle. The bridesmaids wore the Misses Dora and Ida White, who wore charmingly simple frocks of white muslin over silk, trimmed with laco and insertion.; These wer.e mado in semi-empire style, and finished off with large rosettes of soft .satin ribbon. Their large hats wero of pale pink crinoline straw trimmed with 'shaded carnations, and large, ribbon bows, and they carried shower bouquets of palo pink carnations.. Mr. D. S. Williams was,best man, and Mr. C. Pattison, groomsman. Mrs.' Cotter wore a dress of olive green chiffon over'satin, of. tho same', shade, the cream chiffon yoke • embroidered in shades of pale pink and heliotrope, a cream hat with green feathers, and heliotrope fuchsias, and a heliotrope feather boa. She carried a shower bouquet of anemones and violets. Mrs." White woVe a gown of black chiffon taffetas.
