Ghrlstchuroh, September 1. _ At tho Supremo Court to-dav Charles William Ackerley, of Christ-church, clerk, petitioned for the dissolution of his marriage with Annie Mary Gladys Ackerley on grounds of desertion and miscondnct. His Honour granted a decree nisi, to bo made absolute in threo months. ' Wanganul, September 1. At the Supreme Court to-day a. decree nisi was granted on tho petition of a husband, who applied under the Act of last session, which provides insanity as a ground' of divorce. An interesting case was before the Supreme Court yesterday and to-day undor the provisions of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1008. The borough council delegated its powers to the Wanganui Freezing Company to establish abattoirs in the town of Wanganui. The freezing company kad been conducting tho abattoirs since 1902. Recently the company entered into retail trade, and tho local butchers objected to the continuance of the powers delegated to tho company by tho borough council. They eontended that the freezing company was given unfair advantage over other butchers, in that they were mado awaro of competitors' business. Tho borough council was approached and asked to establish an independent abattoir, but refused. Tucker Bros, then took tho matter to tho Supreme Court, which to-day gave judgment for tho borough council and tho company with costs. Inveroarglll, September 2. At the Supreme Court to-day, G. Robertson was sentenced to nino months for sheepstealing. The jury recommended clemency on the ground of strong temptation. Tho Judge said that in no circumstance whatever should probation be granted in a case of sheep-stealing, which offonco wag a curso to the country,
