Wilson (Athletic); half-back, Cairns (Petone); wing-forward, Hayes (Kia Ora); forwards, Shardlow (Petone), Tyler (St. James), I'islier (ketone), X'layer (Oriental), M'lnnoss (Melrose), Driseoll (Kia Ora), Turner (Kia Ora). Emergencies: Backs, Furrio (Oriental), Mackley (Potono); forwards, Sullivan (Melrose), • Sullivan (Kia Ora). SCHOOL MATCHES. Two public school matches were played at Potone yesterday. In the lirst game Petono School was beaten by the Hastings 13 team by three points to nil. The teams were very evenly matched, the first spell resulting in no score on either side. In the second spell Thomson scored a try for Hastings, which was not converted. Mr. Mason acted as referee. The second match, Petono High School v. Hastings A, resulted in an easy win for Petone, Hastings being dangerous only for a time in the lirst spell. The first score was made by Cowon with a penalty goal for Petone. After somo looso play • Taylor (Petone) got over near the corner, the attempt at goal being fruitless. Soon after Taylor, from a good run by Bolton, again got over. He scored a third time, Cowen failing to add to the score. In the second spell Petone soon after the kick-off got going again, and Bolton made a clear run in and scored beneath the posts, Cowen converting. Taylor scored another try, and not long after Duncan got over, the game ending, Petone 23, Hastings 0. Sir. Findlay had charge of the whistlo. .
MARIST BROTHERS OLD BOYS' TEAM. (Bl* TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 31. The Marist Brothers Old Boys Rugby football team left here to-day, via the West Coast, on a trip to Wanganui and Napier. The party comprise twenty players, and are under the managoment of Mr. E. Dervan. The teams to be played are St. Mary's (Wanganui) and Marist Brothers (Napier). The party expect to return to Auckland on Septomber 10. PROFESSIONAL TEAMS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, August 31. It was gleaned to-day by a "Daily News" reporter that football practices under Northern Union rales have boen held on tho quiet for some weeks past at New Plymouth, and now that the game has been organised to some extent tho first match will bo played at New Plymouth on Thursday, September 10, against tho Auckland team on its return from AVellington. Talking to one of tho promoters)-'the reporter was informed that tho local team will contain two or three men wjao'havo worn tho Tarauaki representative jersey, and several who played in New Plymouth senior teams in • Taranaki llugby Union competitions.
