ARBITRATION COURT.
YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. Tho Arbitration Court held a short sitting yesterday. There wero present: Mr. Justico Sim (presiding), 31r. S. Brown (employers' representative), and Mr. J. A. M'Gullough (workers' representative). AN APPLICATION REFUSED. Mr. Grenfell applied, on behalf of tho Wellington Hospital Trustees, for tho exemption of the hospital from the Bakers' Award. He stated that the trustees' wero not original parties to tho award, but unless an exemption was granted they would be automatically added as having come into tlie business since the award was made. His Honour said the'court had held in reference to an education board that it was not subject to tho provisions of the Act.. Mr.' Grenfell said that perhaps his Honour could givo a similar ruling in this case. His Honour said that Sir. Grenfell should have taken legal advico in the matter. Mr. Drown said that it was useless to get a layman, to~ deal with the matter. Mr. Grenfell could not be blamed, hut legal advico should have been obtained with regard tq the position, Mr. Grenfell said that' he had not had timo to look up .the Act. His Honour said that either tho trustees were exempt by virtue of tho Act, or they wero bound by tho Act, in which case tho oourt could not cxoinpt them. Mr. AVestbrooke stated that tho Operativo Bakers' Union objected to tho application on the ground that tho trustees wero in a different position from ail education hoard, in that the inmates of a hospital paid for their board and lodging. Tho court dismissed the application.
THE TAILORS' DISPUTE. Mr. P. L. Muir reported in regard to tlio tailors' dispute that tho conference held between tho parties had come to an agreement ill respect to all tlio items in tho ladies' log, and that in respect of tho gentlemen's log tlioro wore only three points of difference still outstanding. They were tlio question whether an apprentice should bo employed as a pressor, tlio fixing of minimum wages, and . piivmnnt .for holidays. He suggested that a further conference should bo held for tho discussion of these points. It was decided that the conference should meet again, and report to tho court this morning'. ; Tho court then adjourned till 10.30 a.m. < to-day..
