Arthur Cleave, tho ■_ proprietor of tho " Sporting arid Dramatic Review,": appeared at the Police Court upon eighteen informations, charging him with having published advertisements from a number of persons willing to give advice on probable results of horse races, and to mako bets or-wagers on results of horse raccs. Mr. Dyer, S.M., explained that the question was whether .Cleave, when he accepted the advertisements, was aware of the of tho advertiser. Counsel for the defenco submitted that tho Court was only concerned with the advertisements and nothing else. ■ The magistrate decided that Cleavo had committed a breach of the Gaming Act in publishing advertisements from persons willing to bet, and fined defendant £1 and £5 19s. costs. Mr. Dyer stated that he would give defendant _ every opportunity to tako the case to a higher court if he desired. LABOUR AND NO-LICENSE. Dunedln, August 28. The Ironmoulders' Union endorsed a resolution from the Conference urging tho workers to vote "No-License" with a view to having "the Trado" placod under State control.
