SALVATION ARMY.

Negotiations are now pending for the purchase by the Army of. a property in tho Wellington district for tho extension of its inebriates work. If the negotiations succeed, it is hoped that the Army will be able to establish a Home large enough to allow of complete classification of inebriates. They may also be ablo to provide for femalo inebriates. Lieutenant Bannon, of tho Salvation Army's "Poople's Palace" hotel, has been transferred to assist in corps work at Onehunga. Adjutant Newbold, of tho local branch of the Salvation Army, was called away to Auckland on Wednesday by news of tho serious illness of his mother. Ho expected to arrive in time to seo her, but slio passed away while Adjutant Newbold was on tho journey. Staff-Captain Orames, Provincial Secretary, is travelling up through tho Hawke's Bay and AVairarapa subdivisions. Ho will return to Wellington next week. Lieutenant-Colonel Knight, Provincial Commander, leaves next week on a tour which will embraco Otaki, Marton, Taihane, Stratford, Inglowood, Rahotu, Patea, Eltnam, Palmereton, and Dannevirke. Preliminary arrangements for tho Army's annual "solf-denial" effort aro now itt' train.
