FERRO-CONCRETE WHARVES.

(at ' TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 28. A cablegram was received by the Auckland Harbour Board to-day from Mr. Hamer, tho board's engineer, who is at present on a tour of inspection of harbour works abroad as to the oxidisation of ferro-concreto in Auckland wharf construction. Mr. Hauler's cable was to tho effect that lie had inspected the wharves at Southampton and found only one caso of oxidisation, which was above liigh water, and this was duo to stones cutting into the steel, and was easily overcome by cutting out tho defective pieces and pointing with -fine cement. The cable concluded with tho words: "Reports favourable; extensions everywhere; still inspecting; writing." Tho chairman' (the Hon: E. Mitchelson) said that he had instructed tho acting-ongineer to lift one of tho piles at Mechanics' Bay (whero thov had been-down tho longest) for inspection* by/tho mombers.
