KELBURNE BOWLING CLUB. The'-following is the report "of the president.!; (Mr. ; J. P. Campbell) of . the Kelbume Bowlinjg Cluh, on behalf of the committee, for the.year ended June 30 last:— ''Yotir poinmittee have much pleasure in ■stating'that the last season was a most enjoyable; one. ' The green was in good order, and played well, notwithstanding the, long drought:!: -The weather was'exceedingly fine throughout the season, and there were only c two'Saturdays on which the green was unfit for jilay.; •The-neW' 'caretaker (Mr. Benson) has devoted, great attention to his work, : and und<!n;his skilful management the green is now;in capital order, and promises to be in firstrclass'condition for the coming' season. It wa4 'surveyed and top-dressed about the end of'.May,. and was found to be practically level.;:-The green' is now carrying a heavy • Mdicloifflirsoler.of grass,- and will, it is anticipated,'be ready-for opening about the end of Septeihber. "The thanks of the club are due to Mr. It. Avl;Hamorton for again gratuitously fixing the; : and to Messrs, R. C. Hamerton, N. M'Robie, and S. G. Hamerton in assisting with : the ilevolling and top-dressing,'thus minimising, the, cost of the work. The thanks of the club are due to Mr. Dinnie for the vqry handsome" silver challenge cup presented tt> the vclub - for. yearly competition, the conditionsfof jsuch.-competition being that the cup bccdmes'jthe -property of (any meniber who greatest number of points three times-" in succession, or four .times at intervals.'f.The. thanks of the club are also duo to Messrs. -Jl. Routley, R. C. Hamerton, Drury,-;S.' G.: Hamerton, Johnston, and-Bear-don;-fbrdonations of furniture for the pavilion,'ioi\;g&tes,. etc; The ladies have ,also to be thanked .{or supplying the members with afternoon'. tea _ on Saturdays and holidays. committee again desire to■ draw attention, to .the desirability of increasing the membership.. The subscription is very low, only.;£ 2 2s ; per annum, and the committee aro .of; opinion that the residents of the.Kelburne .'district ought to support a local, institution; which is cndoAvouriflg to promote the ivelfaro ,of the district, and to encourage ;a kindly social feeling among the residents., 'Kelburne :'is now so populous that your.committee think that if.members would endeavour to persuade their friends to join the club,: the' membership could easily be doubled. • The financial position of the club is perfectly sound, our assets (taking into consideration -the enhanced ,value :of the property), considerably^*exceeding our liabilities, but .the.anconiG isriiot as' large as' it ought -to be.' -An - additional membership of, say, 40, would enablo the club to get along very comfortably, and to rpduco annually its liabilities/":. /
"ifie club again t°°k part in'the Seni6r n.ad -'Junior .'Pennant matches, but did not meeed;in obtaining a prominent position in either'.competitions. T#o. rinks went to Aucklaad for the, tournament,-connected with the Northern .Bowling Association, and had a most enjoyable timfe, :Thoy played in the section in which most of the representatives of tll«.strongest clubs happened to bo drawn, and ''consequently ,did not win many games, but showed up-fairly well in the aggregates, having, missed . winning several games by ®nl.v- c -f«ro. or' tjireo "points. Mr. L'an« won tho Freaulent',l Rowk, and Mr. .Campbell tho first'competition for tho Dinnie Challenge Cup,''alter several exciting games, Mr. KnwUss-being -runner-up for tho latter competition. Both. these events wero keenly, played' for. and excited- much interest. "Two. very enjoyable all-day tournaments amongst the club members- were held during tho 'season. They wore largely attended, and emittel much interest. Two very successful dances have be<?n held in connection with t!u; club, on« in August of last year, and th/; <>thor in ' July of this year. Your committee desire to thank and congratulate Messrs. Dinnie, Williamson, Knowles, and Lane' ; for their successful management of tho ;diuica .'in 1907, and tho three first-men-tioneil gentlemen and -Mr. N. M'Robie, for theirj equally, successful efforts in 1908." In-thif jtatement of assets tho club's property: at Kelburno is valued at £1600, to which is added tho cost of formation (£484 Us,:;7d.) and tho pavilion (£147 13s.' 2d,), altogether £2232 4s. 9d., which has to stand against mortgages and interest to the extent: of £2312 6s. 4d. Plant, cash in hand, and outstanding subscriptions make the assets £38 2s. 3d. in excess of liabilities.;
