MR. A. D. WILMS. .. (BY TELESKiI'H—PKES3 ASSOCIATION.) Gisborne, August 27. Mr. A. D. 'Willis, ex-M.H.R. for Wauganul, died tliis afternoon. Ho was seized with illness on board the steamer Monowai, about 1 eleven days ago, and was conveyed to "a pri- , vate hospital in Gisborne. His condition-was very critical for several days, but lie gradually improved, and two days -ro was thought" to'be out of danger. His stir gth, however, failed, and yesterday afternu;. nis conditionagain became such as to cause bis family groat anxict ( v. Ho gradually sank, arid passed away peacefully' ahout 3.40 this afternoon.Mrs. Willis and two sous arrived from Wanganui last week. Wanganul, August 27. Profound regret, was expressed in town t-o-niglit when word was. received that Mr. A. 1). Willis had passed away in Gisborne, whoro he had been very, seriously ill for somo .days. Deceased, who was GG years of age, lmd been a resident of Wang'anui for thirty years, and was ono of the most prominent public men, Tho lato Mr. Willis was bom in Middlesex in 1542. 110 arrived in Auckland by the ship Dinapore in 1857, and there followed tho printing .trade. .Later ' he" founded tho "Hawke's ,Bay Herald,';, and subsequently with the laj>c Hon. John Ballanco established the "Waugauui Herald." Mr. Willis, who was also a member of different Wun»anui . local bodies at various times, rcpre-swited Wanganui in Parliament from 1893 to ISSKV a-nd from 1900 to .1005.
