Ho was seized with illness on board the steamer Monowai, about 1 eleven days ago, and was conveyed to "a pri- , vate hospital in Gisborne. His condition-was very critical for several days, but lie gradually improved, and two days -ro was thought" to'be out of danger. Profound regret, was expressed in town t-o-niglit when word was. received that Mr. A. 1). Willis had passed away in Gisborne, whoro he had been very, seriously ill for somo .days. Deceased, who was GG years of age, lmd been a resident of Wang'anui for thirty years, and was ono of the most prominent public men, Tho lato Mr. Willis was bom in Middlesex in 1542. 110 arrived in Auckland by the ship Dinapore in 1857, and there followed tho printing .trade. .Later ' he" founded tho "Hawke's ,Bay Herald,';, and subsequently with the laj>c Hon.
