Mrs. Napier Mac Lean gavo a very enjoyablo "At Homo" yesterday afternoon, which was attended by a larp;o number of guests. Tho artistic, comfortable-looking hall, tho pretty drawing-room, and the dining-room, whero tea was served, were all decorated with spring flowers, chief among these being daffodils and freesir.s. Tho tea-tablo was decoratcd with the same flowers and little pink-shaded lamps. Dr. Mac Lean was prosent with his brother, Mr. Stuart Mac Lean, who during tho afternoon played' the 'cello, and Miss Miles and Miss Stevens, a guest from Nelson, sang. Mrs. Mac Lean received in a frock of dark blao silk, with cream laco blouse. Among Ihoso present wero: —Mcsdames Butt, Miles, Kennedy, Macarthy, M'Tavish, Stafford, L. Blundell, Kendall, Ewon, Watson, L. H. B. Wilson, T. P. Martin, Ewart, Mackenzie, Mitford, MacEwan, Quick, Field, Tringham, and Kcmber, Dr. Agnes Bennett, and Misses Coates, Stafford, Eivcn, Simpson, "Wilson, Kember, Miles, Ward, Scddon, and Beauchamp. On Tuesday, at St. .Matthew's Church/ Masterton, writes our correspondent, Mr. Edward It. Pyno, of Wellington, was married to Miss Emily Banfield Mitchell, second daughter of Mr. T. B. MitohHl, chair" ■'n of tho Masterton Trust Lands Trust. The llev. Herbert Watson officiated. The" bnao wo'ro a pretty navy blue costume, and her -bridesmaids, tho Misses Alice and Edith Mitchell and Miss Truscott, wore rainbowtinted frocks. Mr. Williams was best man. Another wedding which was solemnised on Wednesday, also in St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, was that of Mr. Charles Blenkhom, solicitor; of Palmerston North, and Miss.lnder, daughter of Mr. S. Inder, postmaster, Masterton, but formerly of Palmerston North., On Wednesday. Mrs. Seaton gave a. very pleasant little evening in honour of Miss Hassell, of Timaru, who is visiting Wellington. During the evening Miss Lloyd Hassell slang, several German songs very charmingly. : Among other guests present were the Misses" Hassell, Mr., Mrs., and Miss Knox, Mrs. and Mr. J. Hogben, Mr. Treadwell, Miss Lilian Treadwell, Mr. Stevenson, Miss D'Oyley, Mrs. Gray, and Mrs. Whitelaw.
\ Miss Muriel Wylie had something novel and j amusing in the .way of competitions at the girls' tea she gave yesterday afternoon in honour of Miss Chapman. It was ah observation competition, and not until they were confronted by the sixteen questions asked did'\ many of the' competitors realiso what ■ evoryday - matters escape • their notice. . 'Miss. Greta Ewen won tho fir prize,' and Miss Ellice Fitzgerald the second;; During the afternoon songs were sung by... Misses Wylie, M. Newman, ; and E. Robertson, whilo pianoforte solos wero given by Misses Treadwell and D'Oyley. Among those present were: —Misses Chapman, Ward, 'Perkins, Seaton, Treadwell, Lee, Newman,\ Webster, Robertson, Blundell, Rutherford, and Tlall-Jones (2).
