THE OTHER WOMAN'S HAIR.
In some parts of Trance the custom of selling the hair is becoming so : common among women that it is thought nothing of at all. Many of the girls in countryparts lot their hair be clipped short only in parts, in order that ,by a clever arrangement of their caps they can procure the effect of- not having lost any !of their tresses. - j It is from Germany that the high-priced blonde hair known as "angel blonde" comes, and from Sweden, too, fair tresses iare sent over to England and other countries, to be worked up into transformations. Alsace supplies the curious fish-coloured hair,' a tint that cannot be produced artificially, and that is greatly admired in Paris and in tho United .States, but much less rarely seen in England. Long white and silver-grey hair is grown by the Bavarian peasantry, and is very costly. Black tresses come especially from Hungary. All tho year round dealers journey through the rural provinces of France, and particularly in Brittany, trying to tempt tne hair off feminine heads by offering a good price for a clipping. In years gone by tho dealer could induce a peasant to sell her fine head l of li.iir for a gaily-coloured cotton handkerchief, but since the demand for false hair became so great- the women of the provinces have waxed wiso in their generation, and now rcfuso to havo their locks clipped unless they can be sure of a Eood casli price.
