It has been found in hard papa, indicating very strong pressure fromlarge oil deposits below: Yesterday it passed through a stratum of , aqueous gravel, evidently not of volcanic origin, and this morning it was in hard stratum again,' but at tjiotimo of the visit the pump forced' its way into soft country again, the extent , of which remains to bo seen.
