SHOT WITH A REVOLVER.
MAN FOUND DEAD ON THE SEA •BEACH. Tho police were advised yesterday morning that a man, apparently in a fit, was lying on tho beach at tho Magazino Point, Oriental Bay. Constable Hood was sent round tho Bay at 10.30 a.m., and found the body of a man lying face downwards the sand. An examination of tho body revealed a bullet wound on tho left side of tho chest. Dr. Henry was communicated with, and on his arrival pronounced life to bo extinct. A six-cliamberod rovolvcr was found at the feet of the dead man, one -chamber having been discharged. Six more cartridges wore found in tho pockets of deceased, also a number of papers, which would indicate that tho man's name is Andrew Pctterson, and "that he is a recent arrival from America. Several of the letters found in tho pockets wore addressed " Andrew Pctterson, Chicago, U.S.A." Deceased, who appears to bo about 40 years of ago, has a brother who is said to bo in Auckland at the present time. An inquest will be held at tho morgue at 6 o'clock this evening.
