Mr. J. F. Arnold, M.P., is included in .the list of passengers arriving this morning by tho Pateena'from Lyttclton. Mr. George R v Marriner, F.R.M.S., curator of tho Wanganui Museum, arrived in town by last night's express. Mr. James Smith, of the "New House," Cuba Street, returned from a visit to Australia by the Uljmaroa yesterday. Mr. C. J. Todd, of tho Tourist Department, who has been relieving at To Aroha, returned to, tho Rotorua office last week. Mf. J. H. Owen (manager for Messrs. Sharland and Company), who has been on.a trip to the South Sea' Islands, returned to Wellington, via Sydney,/ by the Ulimaroa yesterday. Mr. H. Brico returned from a flying trip to London yesterday. He left for London by tho .Tongariro a little over three months ago, and returned via Sydney by the Ulimaroa (tho Tongariro arriving from London a few hours later). A Christchurch Press Association telegram states that at a meeting of the Christchurch Hospital Board'yestorday Miss Mabel Thurston, matron of the Greymouth Hospital,, was appointed matron of the Christchurch Hospital in' placo of Miss Ewart, resigned. Mr. M. W. Johnson, having received the appointment of publisher of "The Otago Daily Times" and "The Otago 'Witness," has relinquished tho position of- publisher of The Dominion. Tho vacancy on The Dominion staff has been filled by tho promotion of Mr. G. P. Wills, assistant publisher. i , , . At the conclusion of the meeting of the Council of the . New Zealand Accountants' Society yesterday, tho vice-president . (Mr. James Brown), on behalf of the Council, handed to 'Mr. H. C. Tewslcy (the president) a gold match-box suitably inscribed, in recognition of his services in connection with the passage of the Accountants Bill.
At yesterday's meeting of the council of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand Messrs. Ernest W. Hunt and Herbert D. Vickery, both of Wellington, were advanced, to the.;.degree.-;of,-.Fellows of the •institute. Messrs. Hunt and Vickery were admitted by examination as Associates in 1903, and were advanced to the higher status in accordance with the by-laws of. the institute, which proscribe five years' professional experience before the Fellowship is granted.
