PUBLIC SCHOOL CADETS.
BETTER SHOOTING. THE ANNUAL REPORT. Lieutenant-Colonel Loveday, officer commanding the public school cadets, states in bis annual report •that'in, class' firing (which he regards as the most important feature of the work) tho best rosults since the "inception of the movement were obtained during the past year. The Government lias decided to fostor the cultivation of good shooting among the _ cadets 'by assisting in the ■ erection of rifle ranges. At these ranges the cadets will shoot from a distance of 25 yards, and a .22 rifle will be used. The practice at these ranges will be, as 1 far as possible,- under natural conditions, so that it will serve as a preliminary introduction to the practice on the range. A further supply of the miniature riflo (.310) has been received for issue when necossary.
A manual on similar lines to tho Infantry Manual, 1905 (Imperial), as far -as squad, company, battalion, and ceremonial drill are concerned, has been prepared for tho use of public school cadets. It is expected that the issue of this manual will he made shortly. Since the close of the camp at the Christchurch Exhibition several battalions have undergone their week's training under canvas. The total strength of all ranks at thesa camps was 1947. The conduct of the rank and file and their enthusiastic interest in their , duties was highly satisfactory.
