Miss Anderson Hughes, the No-License lecturer at present in the city, delivered an able address on "Liberty or License" at tho Vivian Street Baptist Church last evening, tho Rev. A. Dewdncy occupying the
Miss Hughes maintained that no man should have tho liberty to partake of intoxicants when by so doing he was injuring those with whom he associated, and in that way was a hindrance to - tho ■ prosperity of his country. Tho speaker said that a largo number of those who were dependent upon charitable aid boards and others who received the old ago pension would not have been in-their present position to-day if it had not been for this so-called liberty of indulging in a liquor that brought about such results. She told of men who somo years back had laughed the idea of abstinence to scorn, and yet strong intellectuallyminded men as they wore, they had fallen The Dominion had lost heavily through some ? being ruined because men had the liberty to manufacture and sell intoxicants. In closing, the speaker referred to the sacrifices those. who assisted in the liberation of the slaves and other such causes had to make, and appealed to her audience to do their utmost to bring victory for tho Wellington electorates.
