UPPER RANGITIKEI.

The half-yearly meeting of the Rangitikei Sawmillers' Association was held yesterday afternoon. The balance-sheet and report, which were adopted, showed a total of fifteen and a half million feet of timber as the output for the six months ended July 31. ' Tho white pine exported _ totalled a million feet. At a preliminary ordinary meeting the chairman mentioned that rumours had reached him to the effect that the Association was interesting itself in opposing the sitting member for the Rangitikei seat. So far as he was concerned, ho gavo the statement an unqualified denial. Other speakers agreed. After discussion the following resolution was passed unanimously: "That, in view of tho repeated rumours to the effect that the Rangitikei Association is running Mr. R. W. Smith as a candidate for the Rangitikei seat at tho General Elections, this Association officially denies such rumours, and disclaims any connection with political matters in any shape or form."
