RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
THE EAST COAST LEAGUE. (DI TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Gisborne, August 22. A meeting of tho East Coast Railway Lcaguo appointed Captain Tucker, M.L.0., to attend with, tho Auckland delegation to tho Ministers. Tho League resolved to send congratulations to the Minister for Public Works on the successful opening of tho WellingtonAuckland railway, and offering wannest thanks for tho activity at present displayed in regard to tho Gisborne-Rotorua lino, also suggesting, further, that work for unemployed exists still on tho line, and that tho coming summer would enable it to bo productively employed. It was resolved to send tlie following telegram to tho Hon. J. Carroll"The Railway League offers tho heartiest congratulation and good wishes on your birthday, and desires to acknowledges and thank you for vonr good offices in causing that activity now apparent on tho line, and which, if continued, must carry it rapidly to a paying point." It was stated that some 130 to 140 men yvoro-now employed on the line.
