A plebiscite was taken throughout Switzerland oil July 6, on the a'osintho question, in response to the movement for the supprcssiqu of the manufacture and sale of that liquor (says, Reuter). The question submitted to the electorate was whether an irticle should bo introduced into tho federal constitution forbidding the manufacture, sale, or importation of absinthe upon Swiss territory. The result of the voting was as follows: For the articlo, 235^232against, 137,702. In two cantons only, Geneva and Neuchatel, was there a majority against the article. The people alsd approved the now constitutional article, giving the Confederation powers to legislate in matters affecting trades and crafts.
