FIRES.
Tho Firo Brigade received a call to No 74 Abel Smith Street at 12.30 yesterda; morning. It was found that a firo ha! broken out in a bedroom on the grounc floor of the building, which is a two-storiec wooden residence. The occupier, Mr. John Gains, and the other inmates, assisted the brigadesmen to extinguish tho outbreak, which was not of a serious nature. (by TELEGIIAriI—I'ItESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, August 22. Messrs. Blissard and M'Vicar's furniture making and wood-carving shop at' NorthEast- _ Valley was burned down early this morning. The plant and stock were insured in the Guardian OHice for £750. Tho building, owned by Messrs. Callender and M'Leod, building contractors, was insured in tho Standard Oilice for £300. Christoliuroh, August 23. A livo-roomcd house situated in' Norwich Street, Limvood, owned by Charles Wilburg, and occupied by Mrs; Kerr, was destroyed by firo last night. Tho firo was caused through a kcrosono lamp being knocked off tfia mantelpiece. The house was insured in the South British for £275,.and tho furnituro in tho Natioual Office for £200.*
