The sittings of.tho Court of Arbitration at Wellington will bo opened at 10.30 this morning. They will be held in the Supremo Court building.
Mr. AV. Courtney,- of Tauranga, formerly of Now Plymouth, will give an address at the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, at 4 o'clock, on the possibilities of trade between Wellington and Tauranga. The Cham}bcr invites all who aro interested in this question to bo present. j
From yesterday and until further notice, a spccial ear will run from tho Government Station on Sundays at 9.30 a.m. to Seatounj returning from Seatoun at 10 a.m. for Newtown, via Courtenay Place. The fares will be Gd. within. tho city and 2d. within th 6 borough. ' . Tenders will be called immediately by tho Wellington Hospital Board for tho construc[tion of an engineer's cottage at the Otald Hospital. It is also intended to raise the water reservoir at tho Sanatorium as soon as possible, so that a supply of water shall bo provided for firo prevention purposes on a gravitation scheme. At present it is necessary to operate a motor pump to send water to tho top of the building.
Miss Anderson Hughes, who for the past throo years has been lecturing through all tho Australian States, is to deliver a series of lectures in "Wellington, and the first of these was given last night in the Webb Street Primitive Methodist Church, which was filled with an interested audience, i Miss Hughes, who is a very attractivo speaker; possesses an excellent, well-modulated voice, and an easy and fluent style; slio is a thoitougli mistress of her subject, and impresses the listener with her intense earnestness. Her address last night was to Church menibers, and taking as her text Christ's saying to His disciples, "As tho Father hath sent Mo even so send I you," she pointed out that Christ's mission to tho world was to save the world, so His .followers, to-day wero commissioned by Him to uplift the fallen and to save tho weak. This qhould bo done in \an earnest, determined spirit. Tho forces of evil were active, and tho Church must bo activc too if it wero to bo victorious. The greatest agency that existed to-day for tho degradation of mankind was tho licensed liquor Jraffic, and.it must continuo to work havoc among tho people of a community un : less tho followers of Christ realised that it was their duty to sacrifice their own easij and leisure in bringing about its downfallMiss Hughes addressed her audience in ihb belief that they woro in sympathy with the aims of tho No-License party, and she urgecj them to realise their own, responsibility for tho success of tho movement and to do.all in their power to help it along. Slio quoted various eases that had como under her notice of the exceeding misery caused by the victims of tho liquor traffic, and contended that the abolition of tho traffic was the only remedy for theso distressing conditions.

During last week a parcel containing £13 was left-at St. Mark's vicarage with a somewhat casual instruction that it was to ho devoted to foreign mission work. Yesterday Iho Rev. A. 11. The Government lias taken possession of the property recently acquired from Mr. James Trevor for the purposes of a Post Ofiico for Wellington East. This includes the substantial two-story brick bouse so long the residence of its late owner. Tho building lias been handed over to the l'ublio Works Department, which lias commenced tho work of altering its interior to fit it for official purposes. The new Post • Office is situated opposite tho Courtenay Flace tramway terminus.
At the meeting of the Harbour Board, In bo held on Thursday, the Chairman (Mr. T. 11. Wilford, M.P.) will movo tho following resolutions(l) "That in view of tho proposed scheme for the conversion of tho Hutt River into a harbour for shipping, which includes the erection of a dock, the ActingEngineer of the Board be authorised to obtain from tho engineers of tho Ilutt River Board tho details and estimates ill connection with tho "proposed work." (2) "That in view of tho proposed scheme for tho coilversion of the Hutt River into a harbour for shipping, which includes tho erection of a dock, the Acting-Engineer be instructed to prcparo estimates' showing tho cost of reclamation at Koro Koro and at the mouth of tho Hutt llivor for tho information of the Board, and whether it.would be feasible to utilise tho river spoil, when dredged, for reclamation purposes.".
