(by telegraph—PßESS association.) ; «—__ OLD WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH. Napier, August 20. Clara Ford, aged 73, ah old ago pensioner, was burnt to death this morning in a cottago whoro slio was living alone. The flames had obtained a strong hold when they wero discovered, and on the firo being subdued tho charred remains of the old woman were found. The cottago, with the adjoining one, was badly damaged. Tt was' owned by' Mrs. Cohen, and insured in the Queensland ofDco for £250. FALL DOWN A HATCH. Gisborne, August 21. On the Tyser stoamor Indradevi this morning a seaman named George Lambert, whilst working tho cargo, fell down tho hatch, a. distance of 30ft., and sustained sovere injuries. Ho was sent to tho hospital. DEATH OF A NATIVE. An inquest was held at tho Morguo yestorday, before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., Coroner, on tho body of an old Maori chief named llangihuatau Hori Tamakitcrangi, who died suddenly at the Strand Cafo on Thursday night. Evidenco showed that deceased, who was about 65 years of age, lived at Tieko, on tho banks of the AVanganui River, and had come to Wellington on business about two week's ago. Deceased was in a weak state, but did not complain until ho had been in town two or three days, when ho said ho was bowitched by some other Natives. Ho had to take to his bed a few days ago, suffering from a severe cough and pains in tho thighs. Ho would not sco a doctor, and at about 8 p.m. on Thursday took a turn for the worso. At about 10 p.m. a nephew of deceased noticed a decided change in the old man's condition, and went out for assistance, biit when lie returned tho old men . was dead. • A postmortem examination of tho body showed that tho right lung was solid with, pneumonia, and that tho kidnoye .were diseased. A verdict was returned that death' was duo to pneumonia.

A labourer named Noil Stewart was admitted to the Hospital yesterday' evening suffering from a slight concussion of the brain, tho result of a fall whilst (jetting off a train-car in front of tho Post Office.
