J THE MINING MARKET. jji ft ' Yesterday sales were reported of' Talismans at £2 3s. 6d. and £2 3s. 3d., which are very fair prices .considering the water trouble now. affecting the. dperations at tho mine. It is . somewhat; satisfactory,- to see_ that holders, are . \not eager to sacrifice .tlieir"■ shares, and there seems to bo no reason why they should be. The: nnwateringi, of the, mine, is, a. matter ..of time and machinery, .and the bullion-producing capacity of the mine is in no. way"injured.' The Berlins correspondent of "The 'Economist,' 'writing under' date July 1, says:—"The situation in the woollen industry, while apparency. somewhat better than with the cotton mills, is far- frcm satisfactory. Nowhere is any considerable new demand for goods apparent, but the mills are mostly still fairly [busy ;on- old orders. At the Berlin wool auction last week, however, the' attendance of buyers was large, and.allthe'': Unwashed wools offered wore sold at prices partly-higher and partly-lower than those of a year ago. Prom Leipzig, the chief market for combed wools' and worsted yarns, it,is . reported-that consumers are holding- back to a striking extent; but it is added that their reluctance to do business'is dictated solely by the fact of .the', near approach of the London wool-auctions, of July. From the Lower Rhino it is reported that wool-spinners havo been'compelled to take'orders at unprofitable prices in order to keep their mills in operation at all. The worsted spinners there have been able to got better'orders than for some time owing to the improvement in ..the price of merino'wools." _ In'the Berlin ready-made clothing trade a more active demand for goods for women's cloaks is noted, but the amount of business'actuallyytaken-has undergone but a 6lightimprovement."
