HOLLAND AND VENEZUELA. New York, August 19. Tho consent of the United States to Holland taking steps against Venezuela is confined to a. blockade, and expressly excludes the military occupation of Venezuela. INCOME AND LAND TAXES IN NATAL. Durban, August 19. The Natal Taxation Bill imposes a graduated tax (with a maximum of a shilling) on incomes exceeding £1000; also a tax of three halfpence in tho pound on land belonging to absentees. CYCLING HOUR RECORD. Berlin, August 19. A. N. Wills cycled 99 kilometres (01Jmiles) in an hour at Munich, establishing a record. In Germany, in 190G, P. Tho tug Irresistible left Newcastlo on Tuesday to search for the disabled steamer Hawea. CROFTON DOWNS ESTATE. c QUESTION OF SUB-DIVISION. Tho question of tho sub-division of the Crofton Downs Estat-o was referred to at tho City Council meeting last night by Councillor Morrali. He stated that the Council's Committee had agreed to sub-division after some necessary alterations had been made, but a letter had since been received in which the owners expressed their desire to leave out, for tho present at least, a road designed to give connection with the Crofton Railway Station, which was shown in-the plan. The Engineer had reported that if tho connection was not mado to the road leading to the Crofton Railway Station, tho only approach to the estato would bo over an unformed public road, which would necessitate the Council spending a considerable sum of money on tho roadway in order that it might he available for public traffic should tho land, after sub-division, bo immediately built upon. He was of opinion that the Council should require that tho connection to this road already formed should bo proceeded with as part of tho scheme beforo any portion of tho roads was taken over. . ■
Councillor Morrali moved p, motion in accordance with tho Engineer's report, and tho motion was adopted.
