TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

NEW SITE APPROVED. At the meeting of the City Council last night, Councillor Luke, who is chairman of the Technical School Board, stated that tlio Board had agreed upon a site for a new Technical School. The site was at the end of Wallace Street, and bounded by Wallace, Crawford, and John Streets. It was a piece of laud detached from the Town Belt, and the area was about an acre. If, however, the Board could secure twp -sections adjoining, they would have 1$ acres on which to erect their school. AnotJier adjoining section belonged to the Crown, and tlio Board thought that tlicy could get it for a very rcasonablo sum—perhaps free of charge. Ho wanted authority to make an offer for onb section, and he wanted tlio Council to oxerciso its power to take another section under , tho Public Works Act, as tlio owner would not come to terms. The Coiintil's solicitor might then bo asked to prepare.a Bill which could bo placed before Parliament tlnVscssion. As soon as it was passed, the Board

would bo able to get under way with the new school. Thero was a recreation ground 011 tho Town Belt available within a few yards, and tho Board thought that this was the best site obtainable. It.was distant only two or three minutes' walk from tho main tram line to Newtown, which branched off to Island Bay, and would soon branch off again, they hoped, by way of Constable Street, to Maranui and Lyoll Bay. It was also within a. few minutes' walk of the Wallace Street line. Facing, as it did, three streets, the site would all'ord splendid lighting to a building. Councillor Ballinger expressed his satisfaction with the site. _ The Mayor' said he was very glad (hat a site had been chosen in that direction.- It would be much more satisfactory Llian the tramways site, or any other that was likely to bo procurable. A motion in the direction indicated by Councillor Luke was passed.
