. (by telegraph—press association.) <1 INJURED BY A BULLET. Cliristchul'ch, August 20. A serious accident occurred at Rangiora about uoon yesterday. A young man named J. Whitmore, aged twenty-one years, came from the North Island with a friend named liall, and was staying with the latter's uncle Mr. A. Busing. During tho morning the young men were shooting at a target. Whit-' more was standing in the doorway of a shad and Hall was a short distance away to the left. SUDDEN DEATH. < Dunedin, August 20. Henry Fordham Taylor, 63 years old, residing'at South East Valley, died suddenly early this morning. Deceased, who was a married man, had been suffering from cold for tlio last fortnight, but did not seek medical aid or take to his bed. KILLED BY A FALLING LOG. A.single man named Georgo Birch, living at No. 7 Myrtle Crescent, was admitted to tho Hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from a crushed hand. It appears that Birch who is a machinist in a sawmill, got his hand caught in a machine. Several fingers had to beamputated,
