MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
POLICE CASES. (Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) A man named. Joseph Donnelly pleaded not guilty to a charge of having at Wellington South, on August 18, unlawfully assaulted Henry Scooues. ' On the application of Mr. Weston for tho defence _ a remand until August 21 was granted, bail being allowed in the sum of £10 and one surety of : £lO. A young. man named Walter Allister Lindsay appeared on a charge of having on August,S.at Wellington, committed a,serious offence on a youth. Evidence showed that accused ,was boatswain of tho Union" Company steamer Kaituna, and complainant a brass hoy on the same steamor. After hearing evidence at length. accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to tho Sttpromo Court for trial. Bail was fixed in the sum of £50, and two sureties of £25 each. Mr. Blair appeared 'for tho defcnco. 1 Four first offenders for drunkenness were dealt with; ono being • convicted and fined •10s. and costs 75., and tho others being convictod and discharged.
