Evidence was given by Dr. Burnett (Balclutha), Lily Knox (housemaid), Taylor (barman), Smith (a temporary boarder), and the police. The..evidence waj even' more , contradictory and tangled than in.the Lower, - . Court. Tho case for the Grown has con-..;, eluded. No witnesses are to bo called for ■ the defence. Dr.. Burnett stated . that h0,., believed tho-cut on deccasod's temple might "• have been caused by a fall and violent contact with some sharp, hard substance as tho ~ ■ architrave of a door. Death, lie believed, had been duo to a bruise- a little larger, v than a half-crown piece on tho brain, pi-ob-,. ably caused by a violent blow on the faco, v but there was nothing to show how this had ■ been dealt.
