The Rugby League has decided not to sanction its players participating in auother benefit match for tho Maori team to-morrow, the reason given for the refusal being that, after the Maoris had stated that tlicy were prepared to depart for Now Zealand on Wednesday last, they entered into negotiations to play matches in Melbourne and to give hakas during the visit of the United States Fleet. Tho managers of the Maori team claim that everything' done was above board, and that they wero justified in trying to raise funds after the failure of tho last benefit match. A UNH/ERSAL'. CAME. RUGBY AND THI3 AUSTRALIAN GAME. Melbourne, August 18. An Inter-State conference of representatives of football' organisations discussed tho question of establishing a univorsal Australian game. In reply to a question, one delegate declared that there was no prospect whatever of Rugby giving way in regard to off-side. Another delegate replied: "That settles [it I . ' , ' Mr. M'Keou,' New Zealand, ' thought a game could be evolved which would bo the Australian game perfected. He added that the Northern Union game as played by the "All Blacks", had' como to stay in New Zealand. -No decision was reaohed.,
