Mr. W. F. Massoy, Leader of tho Opposition, who returned from the North on the Parliamentary "special" last night, is suffering from a rather severe attack of influenza, and will probably be unable to attend to his Parliamentary duties for 'a day or two.
Mr. P. W. Sampson, representative in the North Island for tho "Fiat" automobile, is at present a visitor to Wellington. Travelling from Palmerston North in a 15-20 horsepower car on Monday, the journev was- accomplished in less than five and a naif hpurs (including a stoppage for luncheon Levin), despite the greasy condition of the roads foi the greater part of tho distance.
Mr. J. Cr. Gilberd, secretary of the .tyu'ted Firo Brigades' Association, who .wgnt to England for medical advice, writes to a Palnierston resident stating thftt the .specialist has informed'him that his complaint .is pot serious, but he will require a lengthy rqst, and this will probably compel him' to relinquish firo brigado work*. Mr. Gjlberd intends leaving for New Zealand pn October 2.
Theatrical "stars" are having rather a bad run in tho Dominion at the present' time. Mr. Charles Saunders, tho English tenor, is suffering from an inflamed throat, and several performances in various.towns have had 'to be postponed on that' a< count. That brilliant little artist, Miss Bottv Olils, of "The Merrymakers," was only able to "make one appearanco ill a five nights' season in Wellington; and now it is reported that 3ir. Bert .Gilbert, the London comedian, whose name !""■>«->•» "+ ihr> bead of the cast i "Humpty-Dumpty," has been soriously Injured by a kic* mule. .
